RESOLUTION NO. 769 20
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO HOSPICE OF HILO TO
ASSIST WITH EXPENSES RELATING TO ITS COMMUNITY OUTREACH
EFFORTS.
WHEREAS, Hospice of Hilo, doing business as Hawai`i Care Choices, is a 501(c)(3)
nonprofit organization that provides medical, social and spiritual services for terminally ill
patients at end of life as well as providing support to their families and caregivers; and
WHEREAS, Hospice of Hilo provides short-term, transitional care at Pohai Malama
Care Center, which supports exceptional experience of grace, comfort, and dignity to individuals
near the end of life; and
WHEREAS, during the pandemic many families requested more information on end of
life choices; and
WHEREAS, Hospice of Hilo will create a POhai Malama Care Center Brochure to raise
awareness and education of end of life choices; and
WHEREAS, Hospice of Hilo is requesting funds to cover expenses for printing,
photography, and graphic design for its community outreach efforts; and
WHEREAS, the Office of Aging supports organizations that provide services for the
community and those in need of end-of-life care; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 6 will be appropriated to the Office of Aging to
provide a grant to Hospice of Hilo to assist with expenses for its community outreach efforts.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the County Executive on Aging and Director of Finance, and that the Director of
Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this
resolution.
