VETERANS CEMETERY DEVELOPMENT AND EXPANSION ASSOCIATION, INC., FOR ITS GREENHOUSE ACTIVATION PROJECT AT THE WEST HAWAI‘I VETERANS CEMETERY-PU‘U HO‘OMAHA O NAPO‘E KOA HAWAI‘I KOMOHANA.
WHEREAS, the West Hawai‘i Veterans Cemetery Development and Expansion Association, Inc., (WHVCDEA) is a 501(c)(c3) nonprofit organization consisting of veteran organizations, individual
veterans, and citizens that have organized and facilitated countless projects at the West Hawai‘i Veterans Cemetery-Pu‘u Ho‘omaha O Na Po‘e Koa O Hawai‘i Komohana (WHVC) in honor of
our veterans; and
WHEREAS, WHVC has been designated “Shrine Status” by the Veterans Administration (VA), which makes it one of the only three State-owned veterans’ cemeteries in the nation to receive
this honor; and
WHEREAS, WHVCDEA has requested funds to pay for a greenhouse activation project that requires irrigation system to grow native plants for food and reforestation at WHVC; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Park and Recreation works in partnership with WHVCDEA and is supportive of its efforts to maintain and improve WHVC; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying
the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 6 will be appropriated to the Department of Parks and Recreation to provide
a grant to WHVCDEA for its greenhouse activation project at WHVC.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
