City of Hilo, County of Hawaii ~
Dear Representative:
I am a property owner and tax payer here in Hawaii although we live in Menlo Park,
California. We have visited Hilo almost every year over a ten year period. We think Hilo is
a wonderful town and always come back During every visit we visit the East Hawaii Cultural
Center in Hilo. We were informed by a volunteer that the art center may not be able to stay in
the wonderful building the old police station. This would be a terrible shame if the Art Center
is forced to move. The Art Center is THE best thing about this tittle part of Hilo which is
always struggling to rejuvenate itself. As you are more aware than I old Hilo needs to encourage
cultural activities and tenants that stay and add to the quality of the neighborhood.
My wife works at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco and they are actually moving the
museum downtown to be closer to the heart of the City and Civic Center. Keeping the Art
Center in Hilo in its current location is important.
I know that many of us who love Hilo appreciate the old part of the City and very much
support keeping the Art Center in its current location.
