offices, who work together to assist if able, he believed Hawai`i County could best benefit with said
donation. He stressed that he would never recommend or donate any buses that could not produce as
expected. The donation for the 10 mini buses came into play when Honolulu OTS was required to
procure for new buses through federal funding. He further stated that if not for this requirement,
Honolulu OTS would have kept buses as they are very reliable and have a long-life span. These buses
were used for Honolulu's daily short routes, which included steep grades and high elevation routes
requiring great cut back turning abilities. Lastly, he noted that he was not with information on the
current mileage of these buses, however based off of the federal regulations that Honolulu OTS must
abide, buses must be replaced at either 12 years old or 500,000 miles. These specific buses are
approximately 22 years old, but have much life left in them as they have been well maintained and
documented by Honolulu OTS.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 776-20, and
recommends its adoption.
