CALL TO The regular meeting of the Hawai‘i County Council was called to order at ORDER: 2:07 p.m., in the Council Chambers, Kailua-Kona, by Mitch Roth, Chair Pro-Tem. PLEDGE OF The Chair Pro-Tem directed the Council to the next order of business, Pledge of ALLEGIANCE: Allegiance. (At this time, Ms. David led the Council in the Pledge of Allegiance.) Change Order The following items were taken out of order: of Business: Tiffany Edwards Hunt registered to speak in support of Res. 1-20 (Comm. 1) and came forward when called by the Chair Pro-Tem. CHR. PRO-TEM ROTH: We’ll close public testimony at this time and move to the next item on the agenda. Let’s see. “Appointment of the Credentials Committee.” So, I hereby appoint Council Members Inaba, Richards, and Villegas to the Credentials Committee, with Council Member Richards serving as Chair. This Committee will examine the credentials of the Council Members and report back to this body. So, we’ll take a brief recess in order for credentials. Okay. Recess: At 2:14 p.m., the Chair Pro-Tem called for a recess. Reconvene: The meeting reconvened at 2:17 p.m. Return to Order The Chair Pro-Tem directed the Council to return to the order of business. of Business: Hawai‘i County Council-1 December 7, 2020 PETITIONS, The Chair Pro-Tem directed the Council to proceed to the next order of business, MEMORIALS, Petitions, Memorials, Certificates of Merit, and Expressions of Condolence. CERTIFICATES OF MERIT, AND CHR. PRO-TEM ROTH: We’re going to go off script for just a second. I was EXPRESSIONS OF just made aware of something that happened, and we kind of passed over the CONDOLENCE: “Petitions, Memorials, Certificates of Merit, and Expressions of Condolence.” If I can ask Council Member Kimball to just maybe give a report of what happened. MS. KIMBALL: Thank you, Mayor. I just wanted to take a moment on behalf of the Council to offer our condolences to John Ervin’s family who passed away suddenly this weekend. He was an active member of the Democratic Party and devout in politics in Hawai‘i County. He will be sorely missed. Mahalo. CHR. PRO-TEM ROTH: Thank you, Council Member. John was a really good guy.
