Subject: Testimony on Bill 217 - Ban Pedestrian Traffic to Waipio Valley
i
Dear County Council,
i
I ant opposed to the bill that bans pedestrian and bicycle traffic to Waipio Valley floor. This bill would further limit
public access to public land and exasperate traffic on the roadway. People will drive down the road instead of
walking, causing additional traffic, unsafe passage and a parking issue. Access to public land on the island is already
limited, and to further remove access for residents (and tourists) is wrong. In addition to the right of the public to
access the land, an outright ban is not an effective way to manage public access, provide sustainable tourism solutions
or solve infrastructural traffic problems on the roadway. Providing better infrastructure that can accommodate multi-
model access is the only way to move our islands forward to a more sustainable future.
Thank you for your consideration.
i
Sincerely,
