Subject: Bill 217 - Pedestrian Access to Waipi'o
Dear Councilmembers,
I would like to state my objection to the proposed bill.
Dealing with the reality of the condition of the road, and the fact that it will only deteriorate further with more
vehicle traffic, I think it is in the best interest of the community to disincentivize the use of cars. The more cars, the
worse for the road. Therefore, if you prevent people from walking, there will be even more cars.
Besides, walking is human nature. Now can you prevent people from walking to the shoreline, which is a basic right
enshrined in law?
While I appreciate that the intent of this bill is to protect the valley from overuse, there must be a better way. Let's
think more creatively, and not be entrenched in a car-based mentality.
