Subject: testimony in support of Zendo Kern for Planning Director
Aloha and Happy New Year, Chair David and fellow Councilmembers!
I hope this finds you all healthy and safe and ready to take on the year ahead!
I am writing to ask that you support the confirmation Zendo Kern as Planning Director.
I believe that most of you know me and my involvement with our County government
and community service (listed on my signature line below).
I trust the process that Mayor Roth used in determining his pick for Planning Director.
I also trust that the people of our communities who sat on the interview panel and questioned
multiple applicants, made their decision based upon merits, ideas and values.They recommended
Mr. Kern for the position.
I have seen Mr. Kern at the Planning Commission level and have been impressed with how
he has handled himself. I found him to be reasonable, fair and steady. I believe that his
experience representing clients in planning projects will be beneficial in his role as Planning
Director. As you all know, he has represented many landowners and has encouraged his clients
to be sensitive to the needs of the community and to implement smart growth principles.
I was disheartened to read the complaints about him, and I wanted to add my perspective
and support his confirmation. Having someone younger with a different perspective can be
a good thing, and I support the Mayor, his interview panel, and Mr. Kern for their commitment
to this important County position.
