HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOM 0044.029 2020-2022 From: JAMES HALL Sent: Sunday, January 03, 2021 6:10 AM To: Council Testimony Subject: MAYORAL PLANNING DIRECTOR CANDIDATE Aloha Council members, live in Kona Vista subdivision. I am very concerned about the recent Planning Director candidate put forth by our Mayor Elect. It is important to start off without conflict and controversy. This is not the way to proceed. Candidate Zendo, proposed for this position has worked with the developer planning construction between Kona Vista and Pualani Estates. This subdivision has controversial components that needs evaluation by an unbiased Planning Director. So far, based on cost savings and convenience to the developer, decisions that will affect much of Kona are being proposed without sound engineering and impact analysis to the neighborhood. Controversy needs to be minimized and transparency increased with the council. There is no pathway with the appointment of Zendo to accomplish this. There is nothing to show that the candidate has any training and experience in any recognized governmental planning. The candidate only claims consulting experience in his own company. There is nothing to show that this candidate possesses any education beyond attendance in public school through the 10th grade and home schooling. There is nothing to show how this candidate has ever served in any administrative capacity with any agency of any local, state or federal planning agency. Nor is there any showing that this candidate has ever been employed in any capacity of administration with any governmental agency. It is important that even the appearance of favoritism be removed from the appointment of this office. I want to see the mayor and Council succeed. I would like to see the proposed transparency move forward so all of Kona can see a fair and equitable administration of our futures together. The development Zendo has been working on will have a major impact on Kona's future. It needs to proceed without controversy and with a sound decision making process. The candidate, Zendo, just does not possess those qualities to create this situation and will result in undo controversy throughout his term. Aloha Linda Hall Kailua Kona, Hi. 96740 Comm.
