Dear-Honorable Planning Committee,
I would like to bring to your attention that Mayor Mitch Roth has nominated Zendo Kern for County Planning
Director. The concern is the conflict of interest this presents since Mr. Kern is the consultant for KV3, Kona Three,
the developers for the proposed development for Royal Kona (Kona Village) currently before the County Planning
Department that will impact our neighborhoods. This would be clouded with controversy, considering the important
fact the County Planning director is directly responsible for approvals and recommendations for the development.
And presentations to Leeward Planning Commission and ultimately County Council.
In addition, a $10,000 donation to the mayor elect's campaign was made by (Zendo Kem and principles of the
development firms: Richard Wheelock, Robert Williams and Roland Higashi).
