Aloha Committee Chair Lee Loy,
My name is Craig Takamine. I am the President of Takamine Construction a local general
contracting firm that my wife Audrey and I founded in 2003. Being born and raised in Hilo, I
have a great appreciation for our island values, our local culture, and the natural beauty of u U
Hawai'i Island. Having a successful business has allowed us to give back to the community,
whenever possible, in various ways to continue to try and make our home a special place to live
not only for us,but for our children.That desire to make Hawai'i Island a better place to live and
work is the reason I am asking you to support Mr. Steven Ikaika Rodenhurst's appointment as
the Department of Public Works Director for the County of Hawai'i.
I have known Ikaika for many years as he and I have worked on planning the Meet the Coach
event for the University of Hawai'i Football team. Getting to know Ikaika has truly been a
blessing. He has all the qualities and traits that you would want in a leader of such an important
department of the County. Ikaika is a family man, has an amazing work ethic, and leads by
example. He has the ability to see the big picture, set and achieve goals, and mend relationships
that previously either were damaged beyond repair or non-existent. Most importantly he will be
able to work closely with the Planning Director to assure that applications for permits are more
of a transparent process which will lead to shorter processing times and less delays.
It is for all the reasons mentioned above that I strongly support Steven Ikaika Rodenhurst and
urge you to do the same.
