started out opposing Mr. Kern's proposed appointment due to his lack of formal education
in urban planning and community development, however I have been told that his working
experience affords him the latitude to "jump in" and do well on the job.
I opposed the idea that for the amount of his salary he would be doing an OJT - on the job
training. But deeper pondering has left me thinking he is bright enough to take on this job_
That said, I am left to ask having been a developer's consultant over the years, WHAT IS
MR. KERN'S VISION AND INTENTION FOR OUR COUNTY'S GROWTH AND
DEVELOPMENT? What is his motive for taking this job?
I know that he was generous in his political donation to our mayor and hope it was done
with the best intentions. But what about our island?
Will Mr. Kern be able to remain objective when his former clients come to the Planning
Department counter seeking variances from our laws?
Will he be able to place the needs of the island and its community over that of proposed
build-outs that are counter to our vision and infrastructure's capacity?
