REF: COMM 44 - APPOINTMENT OF ZENDO KERN AS PLANNING
DIRECTOR
Aloha kakou,
would like to express my opposition to the appointment of Zendo Kern as
Planning Director. Mr. Kern's association with developers and others (e.g.
financial connections to developers and landowners in Kona, political
contribution to Mayor Roth's campaign, etc.) appear to be a conflict of interests_
His eligibility does not appear to stand up to qualifications as stated in Section
6.7.2 of the Hawaii County Charter. The selection of Mr. Kern to the position of
Planning Director should require a cleaner background so as not to appear
tarnished or self-serving. I urge the Council not to confirm Mr. Kern as Planning
Director at this time.
