I'harnk you for all your work serving our community.
I have known Zendo Kern for a few years. As a Realtor, he has helped some of my clients with filing and
procedural concerns. Based on this experience and all I have come to know about Mr. Kern, I can not think of a
better person to serve as Planning Director for Hawaii County.
IIe may not have the college degrees and credentials instead, he has experience. He knows the various areas of our
beautiful island. He luiows the communities and what we value.
I am not in favor of development per se, but our Island does need to grow in a controlled, thought out,
environmentally friendly way. If you agree, then I believe Mr. Kern is the right person for the job of Planning
Director.
It should not be held against Mr. Kern that as a planning consultant he may have to make some determinations in the
future on past clients. If this were the case, many other professionals serving the public would be ineligible for a
government decision-making position. Of course, there will be projects and evaluations he will have to recuse himself
from. I trust Mr. Kern and the council oversight to evaluate if Mr. Kern is maintaining an ethical distance where
needed and appropriate.

I thank you for giving Zendo Kern serious consideration to fill the position of Planning Director for Hawaii County.
