Aloha esteemed members of our County Council! 3
I am sending this email because I have serious concerns about the appointment of Zendo Kern as Planning
Director. Kern was notorious during his term as County Council representative for not returning phone calls
and answering emails. When Kern was a Council rep, I sent Kern an email to which I never got a response or
even a phone call. I was going to just let that pass until I heard that there are others in Puna who have had that
very same experience I had.
In his obvious and repeated unavailability and inaccessibility to his constituency as a Council rep, Kern has
shown an utter lack of concern or caring about his constituents and his responsibilities as a Councl rep.
'Phis makes me wonder if Kern really cares enough for the people of our County to make a good, impartial
and responsive County government official.
The term "public servant" is commonly used to refer to public officials. Kern is definitely not a public servant
and does not merit any role as a public official and especially not the very critical position of planning
director. Please do not confirm his appointment.
