RE: Mayor Roth Selection for County Planning Director
This letter is in opposition to Mr. Zendo Kern as Hawaii County Planning Director. My reasons
are as follows:
1) I can find no relevant material to substantiate qualifications for the position.
2) Most all of his "planning" experience appears to have been involved in pro-development
campaigns.
3) He, and or his organizations, have heavily contributed financially towards the current
Mayor's political campaign.
Mr. Kern could be a very honest man. I do not know Mr. Kern personally, except for his
interactions with the Kona Vistas homeowners, and whatever other material is available in
the local newspapers and the Internet.
With all of the animosity and anger between political parties and other significant groups of
people across the nation, I have to ask, why are you even considering a nominee of real or
perceived conflicts of interest, possible compromised relationships, and possibly dubious
qualifications? Why would you even consider bringing these possible contentious points
before the citizens?
