Re: Comm. 78, Nomination of Dennis Lin to the Windward Planning Commission

I
Aloha Chair Kierkiewicz, Vice Chair Villegas, and Members of the Committee:
My name is Miles Yoshioka and I wholeheartedly support Dennis Lin's nomination to the South Hilo
District seat of the Windward Planning Commission.
I have come to know Dennis in my role as the Executive Officer of the Hawaii Island Chamber of
Commerce. Dennis has been active member of our Chamber for about 5 years having served on our
Membership Committee before agreeing to take on the role as Chair of our Young Professionals
Committee 2 years ago. What most struck me most about Dennis, was his sense of dedication to our
community and his readiness to volunteer his time to make it better. Dennis comes with the foundation
a person needs to make that happen— the willingness to work with others;the focus to address the task
at hand and see it through;the trust and confidence earned from those who work with him; and his
willingness to educate those around him so they are able to make sound, informed decisions.
Dennis' accomplishments in his professional life has made him a much sought after team member in our
community. He is currently the HalePlus Program Manager at HPM Building Supply and has served at
Bank of Hawaii; the Law Firm of Torkildson, Katz, Hetherington, Harris & Knorek; and others.
Service to his community came at an early age for Dennis, likely even before spending time as a member
and leader of the UH Hilo Circle K service club, a part of Kiwanis International. Dennis currently lends his
time and expertise to a number of community organizations. In addition to serving as Chair of our YP
Committee, he serves as President of the Chinese Civic Association of Hawaii; 2020 President of the
Hawaii County Economic Opportunity Council; Secretary of the Waiakea High School Foundation;
Treasurer of the Hawaii Island Food Basket; and 2020 Board Chair of the University of Hawaii at Hilo,
College of Business and Economics Advisory Board.
Dennis is known as a person of great integrity and humility, and one,who looks for what is best for our
island community. Our organization is better because of him and I am pleased to offer him my support.
Sincerely,
Miles Yoshioka
