Subject: Written testimony in support of Mark Travalino for Leeward planning commisson
Dear County Council,
I am writing to you in strong support for the addition of Mark Travalino to the Leeward Planning Commission.
I am a practicing attorney in Kona for the past 15 years and have known Mark for many years.
I can say without reservation that Mr. Travalino would be an excellent addition to the planning commission.
First, he has the honesty and integrity that are key components to making the right decisions for the community.
Second, his many years of experience with regard to the community and labor issues will be a valuable input to
the commission. The right decision on development is based on many factors, including the determination as to
whether development is practical from a resource standpoint. I have witnessed all too many times in my many
years here in Kona a project that was approved only to never be developed or improperly developed due to a lack
of resources. Only so many projects can (and should) be approved, and it is important to make sure that these
undeveloped but approved projects do not prevent a worthy project from being approved.
Finally, he is dedicated and hard working and has a strong desire to contribute to the community by being part
of the commission. In summary, he has all of the characteristics of a good and productive commission member, and
I give him my highest recommendation.
