Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 76, reports as follows:

Communication No. 76,transmitted by Mayor Mitchell D. Roth dated December 30, 2020, nominates
Gay Mathews to the Merit Appeals Board.
Ms. P6maika`i Bartalome, Executive Assistant to Mayor Roth, introduced Ms. Mathews, and praised her
expertise and dedication to community service. Ms. Mathews graduated from Hawaii Preparatory
Academy. Ms. Mathews graduated from Hawaii Preparatory Academy and has a master's degree from
Western CUNA Management School.
Nominee Mathews was present, and conveyed her willingness to serve. She elaborated on her
employment history, and lifelong dedication to community service. Council Members Kimball and
Richards expressed their admiration of Ms. Mathews and enthusiastically endorsed her nomination.
Chair Kaneali`i-Kleinfelder informed Ms. Mathews that she did not need to appear at the next Council
meeting for confirmation of her appointment.
Pursuant to Article VII, Chapter 1, Section 7-1.2 of the Hawaii County Charter,there shall be a Merit
Appeals Board, which shall consist of five members appointed by the mayor with the approval of the
Council.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Communication No. 76, and
recommends confirmation of the appointment of Gay Mathews to the Merit Appeals Board.
