Aloha Council Chair David and Council Members:
In accordance with the County Charter Section 13-4, 1 Submit Melissa Cardwell for
reappointment to the Environmental Management Commission.
The Council recently confirmed Ms. Cardwell on November 20, 2019, with a term expiration
date of December 31, 2020. She is now eligible to serve a full 5-year term.
As noted previously, Ms. Cardwell is a long-time resident of Hawai'i, a small business owner
and licensed massage therapist. She initiated the "Plastic-Free Big Island Group", to educate and
involve our community in the reduction of plastic consumption, and is an active participant in
Surfrider initiatives, including the testing and monitoring of area water samples. If confirmed,
Ms. Cardwell will serve a full 5-year term to end December 31, 2025.
