Your Committee on Governmental Operations, Relations, and Economic Development,to which
was referred Communication No. 93,reports as follows:
Transmitted by Mayor Mitchell D. Roth, via Communication No. 93, dated January 7, 2021,
submitting for the Council's review and confirmation the appointment of Mr. Charles Kunz of
Council District 2 to the Merit Appeals Board.
Ms. Pomaika`i Bartolome, Executive Assistant to Mayor Roth, was present and spoke of
Mr. Kunz's being an active community member, a lifelong Hawai`i Island resident and a
dedicated public servant who gave 35 years of service leading the Workforce Development
Division of the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations.
Mr. Kunz was present online and said he was glad to be appointed by the Mayor and was looking
forward to "getting started"with the Merit Appeals Board. The nominee does not have to appear
in person at Council for confirmation.
If confirmed, Mr. Kunz will serve a five-year term to end December 31, 2025.
Your Committee on Governmental Operations, Relations, and Economic Development is in
accord with the purpose and intent of Communication No. 93, and recommends confirmation of
the appointment of Mr. Charles Kunz to the Merit Appeals Board.
