My name is Craig Anderson and I am the Vice President of Operations for Mauna Kea Resort. I
am writing to express my support for Bill 18 which will allow for property owners of homes with a value
in excess of$2 million to receive a qualified exemption for the$2.50 extra property tax on values above
$2 million that was imposed in 2020. Mauna Kea Resort is comprised of 1800 acres including two world-
class
orld class resorts, Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and The Westin Hapuna Beach Resort and numerous residential
communities. During my 6 year tenure here at Mauna Kea Resort, I have witnessed many of the
homeowners within the resort exhibit tremendous generosity and compassion via their financial
contributions to non-profit entities here on Hawaii Island,
During these difficult economic times businesses, non-profit organizations and even the County
are all facing budgetary challenges as a result of reduced revenues. We are fortunate on this island to
have residents(part time and full time)who are willing and able to share their financial good fortune with
others. Bill 18 provides these benevolent individuals an opportunity to continue to add value to our
unique island community through targeted giving to legitimate non-profit organizations that provide
goods and services to those in need. On behalf of Mauna Kea Resort and those in our homeowner
communities who have contributed greatly to worthy 501(c) (3) organizations, we applaud Councilman
Chung's introduction of Bill 18 and we humbly encourage the Council to approve this Bill.
