TESTIMONY IN STRONG SUPPORT OF RESOLUTION 3521
Aloha mai. Myself, Dr. Ku Kahakalau and my `ohana, as well as Ku-A-Kanaka LLC, our Native Hawaiian owned and
operated social enterprise headquarter in Hilo, and EA Ecoversity, a Native Hawaiian, culturally-driven higher
education and career training initiative sponsored by Ku-A-Kanaka, currently serving over 30 learners between the
ages of 17 and 27, strongly support Resolution 3521 urging the county to establish a Job Corps Program for Hawaii
Island. Moreover, we would like to offer our assistance in collaborating with the Department of Research and
Development in identifying public-private parnterships that focus on resiliency and green sector jobs and provide
recommendations to lawmakers regarding use of PONC lands to be considered as properties to manage and steward
by local workforce development initiatives in partnership with such a federal job corps program.
