Aloha Council Members,
Mahalo for your hard work and diligence to guide Hawaii County. I want to share that for many years Zendo Kern has
been professional, informed and overall very helpful to the Arts & Sciences Center(ASC) and our primary tenant in
Pahoa, Hawaii Academy of Arts & Science PCS (HAASPCS). As a Council Member, he introduced us to
'contingency funds' that have boosted projects benefiting local youth over the years while they learn about
civic engagement.
Kern and Associates recently produced a Master Plan for ASC to further develop as a family education center, based
on data and input from stakeholders in our community https://ascpuna.org/projects. It has the potential to serve
students of all ages, workforce development and food security with places to learn, produce and share. He and his
team were very enthusiastic about this community project and brought many creative aspects to the design. ASC
understands that this project would pass to Zendo's deputy for guidance through the permitting process, that is good
oversight.
I hope that with ASC you see the value of a project like this in our community and the value of the people that have
helped to articulate and illustrate it.
