I am strongly opposed to the appointment of Zendo Kern to be the Hawai'i County Planning Director.
Several applications made to the county Planning Department that I opposed because the applications
attempted to circumvent state and county law were clients of Mr. Kern. In my opinion, this is prima facie
evidence that he is an inappropriate nomination for one of the most critical jobs in our county.
Given the person who will become Planning Director will have enormous influence over the up-coming revision
to the General Plan, the first in over 15 years, the citizens of the County of Hawai'i deserve to have an
individual in this position with the clear knowledge, expertise and without the appearance of compromised
integrity to guide us to the completion and approval of the county's most important planning law. While Mr.
Kern is certainly a likeable individual, he does not have the prerequisite qualifications to be Planning Director.
Please vote "nay" on Zendo Kern's nomination. The residents of this county deserve better nomination.
