Support for Palamanui
Building a community around the college is an important item to factor in for students. Whether they are prospective
or current status to be able to have affordable, reasonable residence availability and encourages solid student
attendance records.
Housing opportunities for local families may be considered. However, students at Palamanui should be given first
preference, as the University (and college), is the reason for the University Village.
Community dryland forest stewardship/partnership is a good proposition, as there are presently students/groups
involved with the stewardship. It would tremendously benefit the stewardship to liaise with partners, as those
networked with such organizations as the Food and Agriculture Organizations of the United Nations.
The mixed-multi single family, including entry-level affordable rentals in the Palamanui complex, encourages many,
including prospective students and those graduating, looking at a solid place to live while pursuing continuous higher
education, along with local residents.
Support a regular park, including ball fields, dog park, plenty of parking. This section remains in question, due to
land appropriation.
Palamanui is a model for Kona Community Development Plan Vision. The original concept and phases of
Palamanui are good. If Palamanui continues in a well-organized manner and with those empowered, with the
concept, maintaining their kuleana (responsibility), it should serve as kokua (help) and transparency, for the Kona
Community Development Plan Vision.
