RE: Support for Palamanui Global Holdings Request for Zoning Change
On behalf of the Hawai`i Forest Industry Association (HFIA) and Hawai`i Forest Institute (HFI) Board of
Directors, I would like to express our support for Palamanui Global Holdings request for a zoning change.
HFIA and HFI have been working with Palamanui Global Holdings to optimize forest health of the 84-
acre Palamanui Dry Forest Preserve in North Kona since 2014. Efforts have included collecting and
propagating seed, outplanting and maintaining native species, controlling weeds, maintaining firebreaks,
installing and maintaining irrigation systems, and providing community outreach and education. To date
approximately 25 acres have been brought under intensive management.
Established in 1989, HFIA's mission is to promote healthy and productive forests and a sustainable forest
industry through forest management, education,planning, information exchange, and advocacy. HFIA, a
501 c6 nonprofit corporation, formed HFI, a 501 c3 nonprofit organization, in 2003 to assist with forest
restoration, educational programs, information dissemination, and support for scientific research.
