Dear Chair Kierkiewicz and Members of the Planning Committee,
The Kohala Coast Resort Association is in support of Bill 11,amending Ordinance 09-132,which reclassified lands
from Agricultural(A-3a)and Open(0)to Project District(PD), as requested by Palamanui Global Holdings,LLC.
As proposed,the Palamanui Development will include 1,116 new residential units,including a mixture of multi-family
and single-family homes,as well as entry-level affordable rentals.We believe that it is important for the County of
Hawaii to examine all options to support affordable housing on our island,especially in west Hawaii.
Our hotels and resorts have been long time partners with Hawaii Community College and the Culinary Arts Program at
Palamanui. We look forward to seeing a real community built around this important Kona-based educational asset,
including the proposed dryland forest preserve,open space areas,commercial,retail facilities, and a regional public
park.
The Kohala Coast Resort Association is a collection of master-planned resorts,situated north of the Ellison Onizuka
Kona International Airport at Keahole,which represents approximately 3,500 hotel and timeshare accommodations,an
equal number of resort residential units,as well as shopping,entertainment,golf,spa and dining opportunities.KCRA
members employ more than 5,000 Hawaii Island residents,and we annually pay more than$25 million in TAT and
$25 million in GET to the State of Hawaii,and$11 million in property taxes to the County of Hawaii.
