Subject: Revisit and rework Bill 5 to insure public good
Importance: High
Bill 5: use permits 9 AM Feb 17 County Council
Aloha council members,
After in-depth discussion with county planning staff and others "in the know" as well as going by my own experience, I'm
convinced that Bill 5 needs amending to protect critical public input.
We're seeing efforts both in the state and county to undermine the democratic process when it comes to land use planning.
That includes trying to limit or remove the right of the public to contesting development projects.
This is plain wrong and in no one's interest than that of developers.
Please make a simple and honorable change to the language in this bill to say "automatic denial" instead of "automatic
approval". Anything else is a blatant travesty of government working for private enterprise rather than the public good.
Mahalo for standing strong for the public who you are meant to represent and protect.
Sincerely, z.
Janice Palma-glennie
