RESOLUTION NO. 63 21,
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO MALAMA O PUNA
FOR ITS LITTLE FIRE ANT PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, Malama O Puna is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to
assure critical habitat for native species and open space for future generations through
environmental education, hands-on projects, advocacy, watch -dogging, and land trusting; and
WHEREAS, little fire ants are an invasive species that damage ecosystems, gardens, and
agricultural space, which is dissuading community members from growing their own food; and
WHEREAS, Malama O Puna is requesting funds for its Little Fire Ant Program to
distribute informational handouts and testing kits for preventative action and biological control;
and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation aims to provide a diversified
recreation program that addresses the needs and interests of the respective communities in a safe
environment; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to the Department of
Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to Malama O Puna for its Little Fire Ant Program.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Parks and Recreation and Director of Finance, and that the Director
of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of
this resolution.
