A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE PĀHOA LAVA ZONE
MUSEUM FOR THE PURCHASE AND OPERATION OF SECURITY CAMERAS FOR PĀHOA TOWN CENTER.
WHEREAS, the Pāhoa Lava Zone Museum, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, displays cultural art and volcanic exhibits and artifacts that highlight the unique geological features of lower
Puna, attracting visitors and residents who are contributing to the revitalization of downtown Pāhoa and the surrounding community; and
WHEREAS, the Pāhoa Lava Zone Museum receives visitors from all over the world, hosts tours for small groups, and provides drug-free and alcohol-free educational events to local civic,
school, and youth groups; and
WHEREAS, the Pāhoa Lava Zone Museum and surrounding businesses are adversely affected by unlawful and criminal activity, including, but not limited to, property damage, theft, assault,
and illegal drug and alcohol use in public spaces, resulting in an unsafe environment; and
WHEREAS, the Pāhoa Lava Zone Museum is requesting funds for its Pāhoa Security Camera Program to purchase, install, and maintain security cameras for Pāhoa Town Center; and,
WHEREAS, the Office of Prosecuting Attorney supports improving the criminal justice system by identifying areas of need and working collaboratively with other criminal justice agencies
and with the community; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying
the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to the Office of Prosecuting Attorney to provide a grant
to the Pāhoa Lava Zone Museum the purchase and operation of security cameras for Pāhoa Town Center.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
