Hello Council Members,

As residents of the Pepe'ekeo Point Shoreline neighborhood we would like to bring to your attention our
concerns as you discuss the potential PONC acquisition of Lot 23 in the Pepe'ekeo Point Shoreline
subdivision, TMK 2-8-008-151:
As you are aware there already exists a county recognized, paved pedestrian access to the shoreline.
There is adequate parking for those who wish to access the shoreline for fishing and recreation.
The site in question is covered with concrete structures, building materials and other hazards that
require oversight by the lot owners and cause a constant threat. The access to the ocean is steep,
slippery and dangerous. This is not, nor can it ever be an appropriate site for a safe park.
We have had personal experience living near a public park on Kauai. The park brought litter, noise, drug
use and homeless people to such a degree we finally sold our condo and moved here. A beautiful
shoreline was turned into an area strewn with condoms, needles, meth pipes and other trash. Lydgate
park in Kauai HAD oversight by the county and there were still big problems which the county was
unable to handle. We fear the same will happen here.
We respectfully ask that the Council to consider these points in your discussion as well as what is best
for ALL residents of Hawaii County.
