Aloha Council Chair David and Council Members:
It is my honor and pleasure to nominate Breeani Sumera-Lee of Council District 3 to the
Redistricting Commission.
Ms. Sumera-Lee, a lifelong resident of Hawai'i County, is highly respected as an innovator and
entrepreneur within our community. She is at the helm of the Keaukaha General Store and from
that touch point, founded Hawai'i Rise Foundation, a nonprofit whose mission is to create
opportunities for vulnerable, or moderate and low-income families, children, and elderly. The
foundation provides educational and cultural services, programs, and support through community
and school workshops.
Ms. Sumera-Lee, a Hawaii Preparatory Academy alumna, received her undergraduate degree at
the University of Hawai'i at Hilo, and her MBA through Phoenix College in 2019. She is an
energetic contributor to the Hui Kahu Malama, the Hawai'i Island United Way, and Hilo
Medical Center Foundation. If confirmed, she will serve a term to end upon the filing of the
2021 Reapportionment Plan.
Should you have any questions, please contact me at your earliest convenience. Your review and
favorable confirmation is requested.
Mahalo,
MITCHELL D. ROTH
