HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 065 Draft 01 2020-2022A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF A DONATION OF EQUIPMENT, SUPPLIES AND FOOD TO THE COUNTY OF HAWAI'I FROM HAWAI'I RISE FOUNDATION AND VIBRANT HAWAI'I.
WHEREAS, Hawai'i Rise Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to creating opportunities for vulnerable, or moderate and low-income families, children, and the elderly;
and
WHEREAS, Vibrant Hawaiʻi is a community organization dedicated to convening multi-sector groups to advance collective contribution towards our island’s shared vision; and
WHEREAS, Vibrant Hawaiʻi has created resilience hubs to increase access to digital connectivity and improve food security while supporting the local economy and providing a suite of
resilience and wellness programming; and
WHEREAS, Vibrant Hawaiʻi is donating equipment, supplies and food with a total value of $68,000 to the Department of Parks and Recation; and
WHEREAS, these supplies will be used at Papaʻikou Gym and Community Center, Stanley Costales Waiākea ʻUka Gym, Kawananakoa Gym, Waimea District Park and Honomū Gym to provide children
with virtual learning space/support and food distribution for the Countyʻs child learning programs; and
WHEREAS, Article XIII, Section 13-12, of the Hawai‘i County Charter provides that the Council, on behalf of the County, may accept gifts of donations of money, securities or other personal
property or of real estate or any interest in real estates, and Chapter 2, Article 30, Section 2-162 (a) of the Hawai‘i County Code states that any gifts or donations of money, securities,
or personal property which fall within the capitalization procedures of the Department of Finance, may be accepted by resolution approved by the Council; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation recommends the acceptance of this donation; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that in accordance with Article XIII, Section 13-12, of the Hawaiʻi County Charter, and Chapter 2, Article 30, Section 2-162(a)
of the Hawai‘i County Code, the Council of the County of Hawaiʻi accepts this donation.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that a letter of appreciation and a copy of this resolution be sent to Hawai'i Rise Foundation, 11 Silva Street, Hilo, Hawaiʻi 96720, Vibrant Hawaiʻi, 200 Kanoelehua
Avenue PMB 366, Hilo, Hawaiʻi 96720, acknowledging this generous donation, and that a copy of this resolution be sent to (1) the Honorable Mitchell D. Roth, Mayor of the County of Hawai'i,
(2) the Department of Parks and Recreation; (3) the Department of Finance; and (4) the Office of the Corporation Counsel.
