Your Committee on Governmental Operations, Relations, and Economic Development,to which
was referred Communication No. 157, reports as follows:
Transmitted by Mayor Mitchell D. Roth, via Communication No. 157, dated February 17, 2021,
submitting for the Council's review and confirmation the appointment of Ms. Breeani Sumera-Lee
of Council District 3 to the Redistricting Commission.
Ms. Pomaika`i Bartolome, Executive Assistant to Mayor Roth, introduced Ms. Sumera-Lee stating
that she was honored to nominate such an innovator, entreprenuer and committed community
member.
Ms. Sumera-Lee was praised for her community-focused businesses the Keaukaha Store and
Hawaii RISE Foundation. It was noted that she was a graduate of Hawaii Prepatory Academy
and the Unversity of Hawaii at Hilo.
Ms. Sumera-Lee was present and thanked the committee for allowing her to attend in person. When
asked why she was interested in serving on the Redistricting Commission, she stated that it was
important to her because it is so important for her community in terms of equitable representation
on all levels of government in Hawaii.
Chair Kimball informed the nominee that she does not have to appear in person at Council for
confirmation.
If confirmed, Ms. Sumera-Lee will serve a term to end upon the filing of the 2021
Reapportionment Plan.

Your Committee on Governmental Operations, Relations, and Economic Development is in
accord with the purpose and intent of Communication No. 157, and recommends confirmation of
the appointment of Ms. Breeani Sumera-Lee to the Redistricting Commission.
