I work for East Hawai'i Wastewater Division. I transferred from the West Hawai'i Wastewater
Division so I have worked close to some of the private sewer companies in the Kona area.
believe that we do the same type of job but the difference is their facilities are better than ours.
Our system needs updating. We do the same job and we make it work and be in compliance
with what we got.
I feel it's not fair to consider making Hawai'i County Wastewater Division a private entity
because I feel it's not our doing that now My job is going to be private. I think that with a private
wastewater facility you as the consumer will end up having higher fees in the long run. Private
companies can make their own fees and private companies will have to make profit. I think
wastewater should be operated by our County and we can find other solutions to keep our
system going for our communities.
