VVhy do we celebrate Makahiki? Why do we involve the community? The importance of celebrating a community's culture is for the knowledge; knowledge is the key to tolerance and understanding. Celebrating a community's culture will gain new perspectives of lives around each other as well as communities outside. It helps to broaden our own perspectives and to fully experience and educate ourselves_ In a word, heritage. Celebrating a community's heritage is energizing and thought provoking. We live in such an isolated part of the world that we turn to our community for support. l'he annual Makahiki celebration brings our heritage to the for front to celebrate, educate and perpetuate culture to our communities. Spreading tmowledge, experience, and community support to each other. Reminding our community where we have come from and where we can go as a culture, as a community. Makahiki is not only for the Ilawaiian community, but also for all cultures to gain knowledge and fully experience the Hawaiian heritage.
