Maku`u Farmers Association was formed in 1997 to serve Native Hawaiian farmers and families residing
in the DHHL Maku`u agricultural homesteads in lower Puna. DHHL Maku`u lands consists of 127(5-acre)
parcels for families and 50(2-acre) parcels for community use.The organization's mission is to promote
and perpetuate Native Hawaiian values and traditions to provide educcational and employment
opportunities while also developing small businesses.To become self-sufficient as established by the
Hawaiian Homes Commission Act of 1920.The primary beneficiaries consist of 50+served by the
organization are Native Hawaiian farmers and family homesteaders with lands in the DHHL Maku`u
community and have been consistantly working hard with DHHL and the County of Hawaii in removing
abandoned vechiles and rubbish left by heavy drug traffic and loriters all hours of the day and with an
increase of heavy traffic thorugh all hours of the evening.
The applicant will use these funds to address critical safety and security concerns in the Maku`u
homestead community that have been exacerbated by the disaster, including agricultural theft,
vandalism,trespassing, and illegal dumping.The project will be manged by the organization's lead
homestead security.

Our outcomes are to be proactive with crimes and illegal activity happening within Maku`u. to capture the activities
committed and deliver quick data to local police. To maintain homestead security by purchasing signs to clearly
identify our vehicles as "neighborhood watch"and Flashlights to help with range view during night routes.
