A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO LAUPĀHOEHOE TRAIN
MUSEUM, A DESIGNATED RESILIENCE HUB, TO SUPPORT ESSENTIAL COMMUNITY SERVICES DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC AND RECOVERY PERIOD.
WHEREAS, Laupāhoehoe Train Museum is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that preserves and promotes the historic, cultural, educational, social, civic, and economic interests of the
North Hilo and Hāmākua districts, while highlighting the history of the railroads on the island of Hawaiʻi; and
WHEREAS, Laupāhoehoe Train Museum has been designated as a Resilience Hub to provide essential community services during the COVID-19 pandemic and recovery period; and
WHEREAS, Laupāhoehoe Train Museum has been awarded CARES Act funding from the County of Hawaiʻi to support community resilience and wellness programs, digital access and internet connectivity,
and food assistance; and
WHEREAS, Laupāhoehoe Train Museum is requesting funds to enhance its ability to continue offering these essential services throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and recovery period; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Research and Development supports this project, because it is compatible with its mission to enhance the standard of living for residents in Hawaiʻi County;
and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying
the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 1 will be appropriated to the Department of Research and Development to provide
a grant to Laupāhoehoe Train Museum, a designated Resilience Hub, to support essential community services during the COVID-19 pandemic and recovery period.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
