INSTITUTE TO ASSIST WITH EXPENSES RELATING TO ITS COMMUNITY OUTREACH EFFORTS.
WHEREAS, Hawaiʻi Public Health Institute is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that serves as a hub for health, bringing community-based organizations, government, academia, foundations
and business together to improve the quality of life for the people of Hawai‘i; and
WHEREAS, Tobacco Free Hawai‘i Island, is a program under Hawai‘i Public Health Institute, that created two informational info graphics “What’s in a Vape” and “EVALI vs COVID-19” (know
the waring signs) to be shared within hospitals, medical offices, community health centers, and Hawai‘i Island public and private schools; and
WHEREAS, Hawaiʻi Public Health Institute is requesting funds to cover expenses for printing and laminating posters to educate and raise awareness about the impacts of vaping and other
electronic nicotine delivery systems; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Liquor Control supports organizations that bring awareness and education to our youth and community to live a healthy, alcohol-free, and drug-free lifestyle;
and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying
the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 3 will be appropriated to the Department of Liquor Control to provide a grant
to Hawaiʻi Public Health Insitute to assist with expenses for its community outreach efforts.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
