Aloha Planning Committee & Council Members,
We have concerns about Mayor Roth's request to remove Mark Van Pernis from the
Leeward Planning Commission. We agree with many others who strongly support Mr. Van
Pernis' seat on the Commission and for him to fulfill his term as appointed. For the sake of
transparency, diversity, and inclusiveness, it's the pono thing to do.
Mr. Van Pernis' community-centric advocacy and candor is important in raising/expressing
difficult questions and concerns that should be heard. His mana'o benefits our community--
voices like his matter. We certainly need such voices in search of wisdom and solutions for
the people of our Island.
We ask that you please retain Mr. Mark Van Pernis in his seat in the Leeward Planning
Commission.
