B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED):
The Max and Yetta Karasik Family Foundation through the Hilo Medical Center Foundation is donating 20 AEDs which
include carrying cases and 4 years of maintenance,to be used in the department's patrol and training functions. This is
a continuation of the Hilo Medical Center's Be a Lifesaver campaign that was initiated in March 2015,which aims at
saving lives when sudden cardiac arrest strikes. Providing AEDs to law enforcement personnel allow the chances of
early defibrillation to cardiac patients to increase the chance of survival with better neurological outcomes in out-of-
hospital ventricular fibrillation cardiac events.
