A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE MERRIE MONARCH
FESTIVAL FOR THE 57TH ANNUAL MERRIE MONARCH FESTIVAL.
WHEREAS, the Merrie Monarch Festival is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that perpetuates the memory and legacy of King David Kalākaua through an internationally renowned annual celebration
of hula and Hawaiian culture; and
WHEREAS, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the festival was cancelled in 2020 thus creating a disruption in the normal financial structure and operations to sustain the event; and
WHEREAS, the Merrie Monarch Festival Organizing Committee developed a rigorous safety guideline and a television broadcast plan that will allow for a virtual audience experience for
the 2021 Merrie Monarch Festival; and
WHEREAS, the event will be held on June 24, 25, and 26, and then broadcasted on July 1, 2, and 3 at which time the results will be announced; and
WHEREAS, the Merrie Monarch Festival is requesting funds to assist with the expenses relating to conducting the 57th Annual Merrie Monarch Festival in a manner that promotes public health
and safety; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation provides and facilitates a wide variety of services to meet the needs of the community while maintaining the cultural uniqueness of our
rich heritage, diversity, and the aloha spirit; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying
the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 3 will be appropriated to the Department of Parks and Recreation to provide
a grant to the Merrie Monarch Festival to assist with expenses for the 57th Annual Merrie Monarch Festival.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this resolution to the Director of Parks and Recreation and Director of Finance, and that the Director of Finance
is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this resolution.
