COMMUNI- The Chair directed the Committee to proceed to the next order of business, CATIONS: Communications. PRPSC-7 April 6, 2021 Comm. 176: REQUESTS A PRESENTATION OF THE APRIL 2021 HAWEO AWARD CERTIFICATE TO A DESERVING EMPLOYEE OF THE HAWAII FIRE DEPARTMENT From Council Member Holeka Goro Inaba, dated March 8, 2021. Motion to Close File: Mr. Inaba moved to close file on Comm. 176. Seconded by Ms. David. ACTING CHR KANEALII-KLEINFELDER: Mr. Inaba, would you like to MR. INABA: Yes, aloha kakou. We didn't get a chance to maybe understand as a body the point of this award, yet. And although it's in the communication, I'd like to share a little bit about this. As the Chair of the committee, I felt it important to recognize department employees both in the Fire Department as well as in the Police Department who go above and beyond, the call of duty and service to our community. The term haweo means to glow, or to be radiant. And these individuals who are recipients of this award are that, and they are examples to all in their respective departments of the level of service that we all shoot to try and meet in service to our community. So I want to first mahalo both Chief Perreira of the Hawai` i Fire Department, as well as Chief Ferreira of the Hawaii Police Department. We'll be alternating each month with each department to recognize one of the employees. And we're starting this program off with the Hawaii Fire Department. And the Chiefs or their respected staff, receive nominations for individuals and ultimately select who gets this award each month. So we have here Max Alcover who is a Fire Medical Specialist II, at Central Station here in Hilo and his wife Le`a. And we also have Captain Keolanui, who is his captain at the fire station and Chief Perreira here. And I'd like to call Mr. Alcover up to the table, and Captain Keolanui if you'd like to do the introduction of the recipient. Please have a sit, and please bring the mic close and click your button to speak. CERTIFICATE OF (Note: At this time, the April 2021 HAWEO Award was presented to APPRECIATION: Max Alcover of the Hawaii Fire Department in recognition of going above and beyond the call of duty, and service to our community.
