Res 80-21: KEAKEALANIWAHINE AT BANYANS (AHUPUA'A OF HOLUALOA)
TMK 7-6-014:013 Land Area (Acreage): 15,372 sq. ft.
Thank you for your time and your sincere consideration in the purchase of 4.z.
Keakealaniwahine at Banyans. `"
This is an important cultural heritage site, especially for our native Hawaiians and
all of our surf community. It is our islands favorite surf spot and best kept
secret.
The surf community nourished many generations of our keiki's to teach them the
traditional Hawaiian sport of surfing and have created an annual Keiki surf
contest. This location is pungent with culture, community, and holds a distinct
sense of place where this community upholds a higher calling to nurture the land
to sea connection to keep our ocean clean for generations to come.
There are very few undeveloped parcels along the Kona shoreline. It is vital for
the health of our community, culture and our ocean to have green open space,
here.
The surf community has already managed to stop a 5 story condominium from
being built on this lot. Currently there is a willing seller and now is that
opportunity to save this open space.
We know now that developing along the shoreline causes erosion and pollution in
our water.
All though a smaller parcel at 15,372 sq. ft., compared to the rest of the parcels
up for vote today, it is located right where surfers come out of the water and
right on the shoreline. It should be a place for the community and for the health
of our water.
I hope you will consider the purchase a must save, of an important and symbolic
parcel.
