CALL TO The regular meeting of the Committee on Parks and Recreation and Public
ORDER: Safety was called to order at 9:00 a.m., in the Council Chambers, Kailua-Kona
by Mr. Holeka Goro Inaba, Chair.

COMMUNI- The Chair directed the Committee to proceed to the next order of business,
CATIONS: Communications.
Comm. 176.1: REQUESTS A PRESENTATION OF THE MAY 2021 HAWEO AWARD
CERTIFICATE TO A DESERVING EMPLOYEE OF THE HAWAII POLICE
DEPARTMENT

Motion to Close File: Ms. Lee Loy moved to close file on Comm. 176.1. Seconded
by Ms. David.

CHR. INABA: Aloha Kahahiaka, HPD (Hawai`i Police Department) ohana. At
this time, could you come to the front table, please? So mahalo nui for being here
today you folks. We have Sergeant Tomota, and Officer Wong here. And Officer
Wong on the left, has been selected as the awardee for the month of May, the
Haweo Award. As we know this is our first day, giving it to somebody from the
Police Department. The second award ever.
And this award, as the Clerk read in, goes to recognize the individuals of our
Police and Fire ohana who go above and beyond the call of duty in service to our
community. And at this time I'd like to again mahalo the leadership of the Police
Department for providing us with a name and nominating someone for this award.
And I'd like to hand it over to Sergeant Tomota for the mo`olelo on why Officer
Wong is being presented this award today. So if you could, and then you can take
your mask off and click the button.
CERTIFICATE OF (Note: At this time, the May 2021 HAWEO Award was presented to
APPRECIATION: Travis Wong of the Hawaii Police Department in recognition of going
above and beyond the call of duty in service to the community. His
supervisor Sergeant Aaron Tomota came forward and provided statements
regarding his acts of heroism. Several Council Members expressed their
gratitude for Officer Wong's exemplary performance, and Chair Inaba
provided a celebratory Hawaiian Chant.)
CHR. INABA: We just want to mahalo you again, for your service. Thank you
to Sergeant Tomota for the wonderful write up. We don't have to ask any further
questions when you folks write such detailed mo`olelo for us. And we look
forward to your continued service here in the community. So we have a motion
on the floor to close file on Communication 176.1 all those in favor please say
Ic aye.
Vote on Comm. 176: The motion to close file on Comm. 176.1 was carried
(Approved) by the following voice vote:
Ayes: Committee Members David, Kaneali`i-Kleinfelder,
Kierkiewicz, Kimball, Lee Loy, Richards,

Excused: None.

voice vote:
