Dear PONC Administrators: `
Thank you for allowing me to provide testimony to support the Holualoa Community
Forest. Holualoa is one of the few places left in Kona that still has a "Kona Country" feel
and we need to preserve what we can to keep Kona country and to preserve the unique
history of Holualoa.
I support the efforts of the HOlualoa community to establish this community forest and a
place where people can visit and enjoy Kona's natural beauty. A walking path that
connects HOlualoa Elementary School to the Kona Imin Community Center will serve
this community in many ways, including providing a safe walking path for exercise and a
way to just enjoy nature. This will also provide educational opportunities for students,
the community and visitors.
The community's commitment to participate in the restoration of the landscape, monitor
its care and help maintain it, will ensure that a project like this will not be forgotten or
neglected for generations to come. The project will provide the residents of Kona,
Hawai'i Island and visitors from all over the world a safe and welcoming place to enjoy
Kona's unique environment while exercising or just having a picnic under a nice shade
tree.
Thank you for your hard work and consideration in preserving the Holualoa Community
Forest.
Sincerely,
Claudia S. Chang
