As a business owner in Holualoa Village, as President of the Holualoa Village Ohana, and a longtime Holualoa resident, I appreciate the need to protect our environment, and preserve undeveloped, forested land for future generations. There is no publicly owned land that is accessible to the population at large in the Holualoa area, and certainly no forested land that is not privately held. This land is for our keiki, and for future generations, as well. This purchase would protect a small, but viable parcel, and as a side benefit would ensure it's continued function for flood mitigation in a critical drainage. It would also provide the largest step toward the plan to connect Holualoa Elementary School with Imin Center, providing a nature trail and alternate route that could replace more dangerous walk along Mamalahoa Highway. I strongly support the purchase of this property. It may not be the most glamorous or controversial parcel under consideration, but it is one of critical importance.
