The island draws in visitors from all over the world. It is a treasure and viewed as a prime vacation location. What
draws people there is the beauty of the land. The beaches. The sunrise and sunsets. The tropical atmosphere. Further
development of the land is unnecessary. Preservation of the island should be the priority. The impact on the ocean and
wildlife should be a priority. Growing up on the island- there was a great deal of emphasis on being eco-conscious-
treating the land with care and respect. There are ample hotels and vacation rentals to accomodate tourism. Each
parcel of land has its value and it is not limited to construction. The plant life, soil, and animals all play a part in the
health of the island. Not every space needs to be plowed down and manicured. There is value to nature being natural.
Providing the message to visitors that the island's natural beauty is worth preserving. Preserve the land. Respect the
land. I have watched the island change- being coated in pavement, condos and shopping centers. This is not what
makes Hawaii special. The impact is visible. We need to stop and consider the long term impact. What are we leaving
for the generations to come?
This particular plot of land offers so much to its community- supporting cultural experiences and protecting the
existing community from flood. The island has established plant life that keeps it healthy and each plant plays a role
in soil healthy and overall structure- which are able to respond to the conditions. Modifying this changes this eco zone
and weakens the overall health of the island. This inturn impacts the residents and visitors. I ask that you preserve this
plot of land for the value it has to its surround community and the island as a whole.
