To Whom It May Concern:
Re: support of a property that was nominated as a potential County acquisition for Public Access, Open Space and
Natural Resources Preservation Commission (PONC).
The PONC properties, Ke Ala Kakou (Holualoa Community Forest)
As a resident and property owner of Holualoa I am most concerned with preserving the integrity of the land, culture,
and ambience in a historically rich area.
I have seen firsthand what continuous development and building of houses can do to the deterioration and flooding
for this area. Ultimately this will cause major repercussions in Kailua town since everything flows downward. The
last heavy rains caused major damages from every thoughtless excavation/scoop into our precious land.
It is a civic duty for any well planned city or community to develop open spaces and develop park like areas for the
preservation and integrity of the environment, as well as for the enjoyment of its constituents and future generations.
Instead Kona town has been developing with little concern for smart planning including providing wider user friendly
sidewalks and park areas. It is critical to preserve Holualoa Village with sensibility and concern for future
generations and today's residents.
The county has issued enough building permits mauka that has already caused serious drainage and flooding
issues, without any concern of fixing 'grey roads' or concerning themselves with the results noted above. It is
time for the county to be responsible for smarter planning for its resident members.
The County acquisition of Ke Ala Kakou (Holualoa Community Forest) and parking space, for Public Access, Open
Space and Natural Resources Preservation should be a mandatory and civic duty by those voted in.
Sincerely
M Karen Sheff
